Bipartisan Bill to Expand Marijuana Research Reintroduced

Strict federal regulations and administrative obstacles have severely limited research with marijuana and its compounds. Several U.S. senators have reintroduced the Cannabidiol and Marijuana Research Expansion Act to encourage scientific and medical research on the marijuana plant to better understand the potential benefits and negative side effects of treatment options. The goal is to ensure that research on marijuana-derived substances is conducted responsibly while also streamlining the regulatory barriers associated with it. The bill is divided into four sections covering the following:

  • Registrations for marijuana research
  • Development of FDA-approved drugs using cannabidiol and marijuana
  • Doctor-patient relationships
  • Federal research
