Dr. McKinney was trained as a pediatric infectious diseases specialist. He worked at Duke for 37 years, from residency to professorship, where he served as Division Chief for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Vice Dean for Research, and Director of the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities, and History of Medicine. His infectious diseases research was on the treatment of HIV infected children, and his bioethics work was on issues in conflicts of interest and informed consent.
